Momma dog, eight puppies abandoned in Skamania County forest

Over the weekend, a momma dog and her eight puppies were found abandoned in the forest in Skamania County.

A volunteer with the Knotty Creek Animal Rescue in Sweet Home was tipped off to their location and drove up to find them.

The rescue says the momma dog had been tied to a tree, and they believe she and her puppies had been left there for about a week.

The only thing they had to eat was a deer carcass nearby.

Momma and the puppies are now safe and recovering at the rescue in Sweet Home. While they are on the mend, they still have some healing to do.

“Mom has probably a broken leg, or at least some form of cyst. Right now, we’re trying to find a vet that will come to us, because she can’t get into our vehicle we have. It’s a little higher up,” said Bailey Porter, executive director at Knotty Creek Animal Rescue.

The rescue says the sheriff’s office cleared them to adopt the dogs out when they are ready.

Right now, they tell us three of the puppies could possibly be ready. However, the rest are still skittish of people and need some socializing before they can go to forever homes.

Plus, momma’s leg injury needs to heal.
